Four Cute Needle Books for Largesse

I have been between projects this February, which does not sit well with me. Having idle hands makes me anxious and I need to have something on the frame to keep me sane while consuming media. And knowing we always have a need for largesse and gift baskets, I decided to make some quick little needle books. (And create some tutorials for future classes!)

I sketched out four little pieces that I knew would be colorful and fun, then hit my linen scrap stash for the base fabric. I unfortunately neglected to take shots of the construction process. But rest assured the backs are messier than usual with the knowledge they would be hidden forever. Stitching was completed in split stich with cotton DMC floss.

Construction was simple with two long pieces of linen lined with wool felt interfacing for structure. Then a wool panel was embroidered in with stem stitch to make a handy page for needles or veil pins.

The final touch was a woven edging done in alternating black and white wool. The technique is similar to finger loop braiding with each repeat tacked down to make a solid edge to hide the seams.

Four completed needle books (3" x 3") ready for giving!
